Hi, I’m Thom Lawrence. I was CTO of StatsBomb, a sports analytics startup, until it was acquired in 2024 by Hudl, where I now manage various data science and AI projects in its Global Football Metrics group.
In my spare time:
- I am a member of the UK Business Angels Association and like to make SEIS investments in deeptech, clean energy and AI startups, especially in and around South Yorkshire. You’re welcome to connect with me on LinkedIn, if that’s your sort of thing.
- I have taken several courses in Roman and Greek history with the Institute of Continuing Education at Cambridge under Philip Matyszak. I’m also a member of the Hellenic and Roman Library and if you ever meet me in London I will bore you with whatever new books I’ve taken out. If you’re extremely unlucky I might even ramble about my screenplay about Demosthenes and Aeschines.
- I play Magic: the Gathering and I DM a regular Dungeons & Dragons campaign for family and friends. I also design various half-finished tabletop and video games with my kids. I used to play chess constantly until I realised I was far too lazy to ever be good and it was making me miserable.
- I’ve been an Everton fan since moving to the north-west as a kid in the 80s. It’s been… up and down since then.
